- First simplify 4/8 = 1/2
- Both original denominators were multiples of 40
Step 2: Find multiples of 40 Multiples of 40: 40, 80, 120, 160, 200…
Step 3: Work backwards from simplified fractions For 2/5: multiply both numerator and denominator by the same number
- 2/5 × 8/8 = 16/40
- 2/5 × 16/16 = 32/80
- 2/5 × 24/24 = 48/120
- etc.
For 1/2: multiply both numerator and denominator by the same number
- 1/2 × 20/20 = 20/40
- 1/2 × 40/40 = 40/80
- 1/2 × 60/60 = 60/120
- etc.
